“Rear View” Bum Genius Original Elemental

It’s time again!  Here to review another diaper.  Sticking with the Bum Genius line, today I’ll be reviewing the Original Elemental, aka the OBGE.  Until recently, this diaper was discontinued, and harder to find.  Cottonbabies recently re-released it for a limited time, and I snagged a few new, but you can find these guys floating around on swaps.

The OBGE is a true AIO.  The soakers are organic cotton, and soft and absorbent once properly prepped. As opposed to the New Elemental (I’ll be reviewing this one soon!) this one does have a sewn in liner between the soakers and the PUL. These also have rolled elastic around the legs.  These do not have a stay dry liner, so if your baby has wetness sensitivity, you will want to add a stay dry liner to this diaper.  It is a one size, so can be used from about 10 pounds to potty training.  This is a very easy to use diaper, so it would be good for daycare or baby sitters.  This diaper is (to my knowledge) only available in snaps – at least from the most recent release.

This diaper is very trim, and is much narrower between the legs than the BumGenius Freetime.

So far, I love this diaper.  I like how trim it is, and find it very absorbent.  Some complaints about this diaper from other users is the long drying time, although I haven’t found this to be a problem.  If you had a smaller stash though, I could see that being a bigger issue.  Some people have reported holes forming in the lining where the soakers are sewn to it, sometimes rather quickly, without a lot of use, due to the stress at that point in the diaper.  I have not experienced that, but I do see where it could happen.

Over all I give this diaper an A.

Price: $$$

  • Natural Fiber
  • Trim
